We Spent the Last Three Months Testing 24 FDA-Registered At-Home Laser Hair Removal Devices — Here's What Actually Works in 2026 (and Painless)

After experiencing the many pitfalls of shaving (ingrown hairs, redness, irritation, and speedy re-growth), we contemplated alternative hair removal methods this season. Since professional laser hair removal isn't the most time-friendly option (visits take up to two hours, & cost upwards of £400 per session), and some of us can't head out to an appointment right now, we're looking at the next best thing: at-home laser hair removal devices.

We tested 24 at-home laser hair removal devices, including models from Tria, Silk'n, Braun, and EluraSkin. We rated the best five options based on the following criteria:

Results

We tested how many weeks it took for us to stop our hair growth, ideally trying to stop hair growth a couple months into weekly use. A few of the devices ended up working extremely well, delivering permanently hairless, silky skin to us.

Cost

If you were to go the in-office route, it would end up costing up to 400 pounds per session (between 6-8 sessions needed for laser hair removal). We were able to get great results with devices that ended up costing less than £400, with the best results from a handset costing just around £149*.

Safe for At-Home Use

london-based dermatologist Josh Zeichner, MD, considers at-home lasers a safe alternative. "Lasers work by emitting a beam of light that is absorbed by a specific target in the skin," Dr. Zeichner explains. "In this case, the light is absorbed by pigment in the hair follicle to heat it up and destroy it, so the hair does not grow back. At-home devices work similarly to professional treatments."

We looked for the laser hair removal options on the market that remove hair permanently & were suitable for at-home use.

Why Estheticians Chose EluraSkin as the Best Overall Choice for Removing Unwanted Hair

£149*

By far, everyone had the best results with the EluraSkin handset (known for their clinical devices, their at-home devices are also perfect for permanent hair removal).

A fan favorite since their company began, it features adjustable power levels, and glide mode - allowing for a complete laser hair removal session in just 5 minutes. For all of us, it took just about 8 sessions using it once per week to stop unwanted hair growth.

  • Removes both blonde & dark hair.
  • Costs £249 at standard price.
  • With glide mode - sessions take only around 5 minutes rather than the standard 20-30 minutes.
  • Completely safe for hair removal on all skin types, not effective only for white hairs.
  • It took us just about 8 uses to stop unwanted hair growth.

Remington IPL6000q Ilight Quartz

£486

Mainly for larger areas, Remington can be difficult for precise laser hair removal; for those of us who used the Remington, it took about 14 sessions for permanent hair removal.

  • Like Tria, it takes around 14-16 uses for permanent hair removal.
  • Difficult for precise areas.
  • A bit heavy, but with heavy-duty results - for most of us it gave us results after just about 14 uses.

Tria Beauty Hair Removal Laser 4X

£449

With Tria - it takes around 14-18 uses to stop unwanted hair growth. It's designed for more precise permanent hair removal as it does not include a glide-mode option.

  • Excellent for precise use, but difficult for broad areas like the arms & legs.
  • Complete results after 14 sessions.
  • Priced at £449.

Silk’n Permanent Hair Removal Device

£199*

Like Remington & FiveMinSkin, it's able to permanently stop unwanted hair growth after about 12 uses. It's loved for it's handheld size & simplicity of use.

  • Comfortable, handheld design & easy to treat any area.
  • Simple to use, it's a great choice for permanent hair removal.
  • £349 at standard price.
  • Similar to EluraSkin - Silk'n stops hair growth within 12 uses.

honestly the EluraSkin one surprised me. the ingrowns on my bikini line were the worst and after about 6 weeks way less stubble + barely any bumps now. it's not magic, you do have to be consistent, but for less shaving i'm sold 🙌

Valerie DiPetrio

same here, got the elura on a whim and i'm glad i did. legs + underarms barely grow back now, and i love that the flashes don't sting like my old device did. just don't expect overnight results, mine kicked in around week 4

user

Maureen Ryz

been comparing all of these for weeks lol. which one actually held up long term? leaning elura or ulike but can't decide

user

Petra Jaime

@Maureen i had both honestly, kept the elura. the cooling made it way easier to actually stick with the routine for me. ulike is good too, you really can't go too wrong with either of the top ones on this list

user

Eleanor Mouthy

quick q before i buy.. do these work on darker skin tones? want to make sure i pick the right one

user

Joyce Adams

@Eleanor just check the skin tone chart on the page before you order, they all show which tones it's suitable for. easy to match yourself in like 2 seconds 👍

user

Kristin Byrd

the math is what got me. i was about to drop $2k+ on clinic sessions, one of these is a fraction of that and i do it whenever i want. wish i'd known about them sooner

user

Jenna Ellis

for anyone with PCOS like me, it really helped slow down my chin hair and made the upkeep so much less stressful. still do occasional touch ups but i'm not plucking every morning anymore which is everything 🥹

user

Cindy Watson

the cooling feature is honestly the difference maker for me. my old handset stung and i quit after a week, this one i barely feel so i actually keep up with it. consistency is the whole game with these

user

Rachel Combs

best part for me is just doing it at home in my pajamas instead of booking appointments and getting waxed by a stranger every few weeks 😅 the convenience alone makes it worth it

user

Megan Foley

for everyone asking how long it takes, i started seeing slower regrowth around week 3-4 and by month 2 it was a noticeable difference. stick with it through the first month and you'll be happy you did 🙂
